Brian Gorlick





Brian Gorlick worked with the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UN Secretariat for over twenty-five years. His last assignment was Deputy Representative (Protection) at UNHCR Malaysia. Previously he was the first Chief of the Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA) in the UN Secretariat in New York. With UNHCR he was posted and served in Turkey, India, Sweden, New York, the Caribbean, Bangladesh, and the Department of International Protection in Geneva. He has also been on mission with the United Nations in some forty countries around the globe. Prior to joining the United Nations, Brian worked as legal counsel in the areas of immigration and refugee and administrative law in Toronto. He holds degrees from the University of Winnipeg (BA), York University (MA), Osgoode Hall Law School (JD), and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LLM, with distinction) and was called to the Ontario Bar. For several years Brian was Policy Developments Editor of the International Journal of Refugee Law (Oxford University Press). He has published on international human rights law and refugee protection, gender rights, immigration and national security, and global administrative law, and has lectured and taught at university and training institutions in Asia, Europe and North America.
