Wednesday 3 November, 13.00 - 14.30 UK time

Evidence has shown that internally displaced persons (IDPs) consistently experience worse health outcomes than host populations and other forcibly displaced populations such as refugees. However, arguably less attention has focused on examining the responses required to improve health outcomes among IDPs and reduce health inequalities.

The Health and Internal Displacement Network (HIDN) promotes research engagement and evidence-driven policy on IDP health. This webinar presents perspectives on how health and humanitarian policies and programmes can better address the health needs of IDPs.

The webinar consists of brief presentations from leading HIDN humanitarian practitioners and researchers, followed by open discussion to help develop recommendations:

  • · Dr Kiran Jobanputra, Reflection and Analysis Network, Médecins sans Frontières
  • · Dr Winifred Ekezie, University of Leicester
  • · Dr Sara Ellithy, Humanitarian health practitioner in Middle East region
  • · Dr James Smith, Research Advisor, Elrha - Research for Health in Humanitarian Crises

This webinar is chaired by HIDN member Professor Bayard Roberts, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Participants will be able to ask questions and share comments through online moderation. The event will be held in English and take place online, with the event recording made available afterwards.
