“Health and Internal Displacement in the Middle East”

Middle East Research Network on Internal Displacement

Monday 11th April 2022, 1:00-2:00pm UK / 3:00-4:00pm Syria / 4:00-5:00pm Iraq

Over the past ten years, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has experienced unparalleled waves of displacement, instigated by political instability across the countries of the MENA region. The Middle East Research Network on Internal Displacement (MERNID) is hosting this series of conversations on internal displacement in the MENA region.

This latest MERNID webinar, held in collaboration with the Health and Internal Displacement Network, addresses issues of IDP health in the MENA region. It will be chaired by MERNID director, Dr. Hana Asfour, and presents interventions by leading MERNID researchers:

  • “10 Years into the Syrian War - Access to Healthcare for Internally Displaced Persons”  - Ms. Rasha Kaloti, Global Health Consultant
  • “Health of Refugees and IDPs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory" Dr. Weeam Hammoudeh, Assistant Professor, Institute of Community & Public Health, Birzeit University
  • “Sexual Violence and Forced Displacement in the Middle East: A Scoping Review” – Dr. Veronica Fynn Bruey, Assistant Professor, Legal Studies, Athabasca University
  • “Offering Multi-layered Mental Health and Psychosocial Support to IDPs in a Protracted Conflict Context in Iraq”  - Dr. Yasin Duman, Research Consultant

MERNID works to address the gaps in research on internal displacement in the MENA region by building a robust community of researchers and practitioners around this challenge in the region.

Webinar will be English
