Panel Launch:
Enabling Health Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons
__________________________________
This joint event by the UK Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) and the Internal Displacement Research Programme (IDRP) and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) at the University of London takes place on 19 April 2021 from 14:00 to 15:00 BST.
Over 45 million people currently live displaced within their own countries due to armed conflict. In many of those low and middle income countries where the health system is already overwhelmed, these internally displaced persons (IDPs) tend to experience more acute vulnerabilities and health needs than other conflict-affected populations, including refugees who leave the country. This means that, if we are to enable more equitable health outcomes globally, IDP health must be a priority. Yet our understanding of health in contexts of internal displacement remains fragmentary.
Drawing on reflections from our jointly-convened February 2021 expert workshop of over 30 leading researchers in health research from fifteen countries, the event will (1) present our key empirical findings and policy takeaways for enabling IDP health in conflict contexts, (2) start our discussion of the implications for policy and operations with high-level speakers, and (3) launch our innovative global ‘Health and Internal Displacement Network’ (HIDN), with new members welcome!
Please register below to join us for this crucial 1-hour briefing and discussion session. Participants will be able to ask questions and share comments through online moderation. The event will be held in English and take place online, with the event recording made available afterwards.
