Bio:

Claudia Blandon is a PhD student and a Doctoral Teaching Assistant at the University of Plymouth’s Institute of Education. Claudia’s work intends to look at the impact of human rights education on women who have experienced displacement in Colombia, with a particular focus on women of African descent.

Prior to undertaking a PhD, Claudia worked as a research assistant conducting applied and academic research at the University of Plymouth. Claudia’s master’s dissertation explored conceptualisations of the right to self-determination amongst Saharawi people living in refugee camps in southern Algeria. Her interest in internal displacement emerged from exposure to internal displacement in Colombia and witnessing discrepancies between law and practice and conceptualisations of empowerment and agency, particularly amongst women. Claudia is interested in exploring contextual understandings of power, agency and vulnerability amongst people who have experienced displacement.
