Bio
Damla Gundogdu is a PhD candidate in Law at the University of Essex. Her PhD thesis focuses on re-establishing effective voluntary repatriation in international law for the 21st-century conditions in the refugee context under the supervision of Prof. Geoff Gilbert. She completed her LLM from Queen Mary University of London with a thesis titled “The Global Compact on Refugees: An Improvement of Responsibility-sharing in International Refugee Law?” under the supervision of Prof. Elspeth Guild. She was awarded the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education scholarship programme for her postgraduate education.
Previously, Damla worked as a research assistant under the public international law department at Isparta Suleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Law in Turkey. In several branches of international law, including international refugee law, she assisted academics, notably Assistant Professor Meltem Ineli Ciger, alongside teaching experience. She obtained an LLB degree from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. She was also qualified as a lawyer in Turkey (Eskisehir Bar Association).
