Dean is currently a PhD candidate at the School of Advanced Study researching government risk perceptions of irregular migrants and the affect of these perceptions in Australian and UK migration law and policy. He is particularly interested in how these risk perceptions are created and then used as justification for changes to domestic migration law and policy that affects the rights position of people with an irregular migration status.
Dean is a qualified Australian solicitor and barrister admitted to practice federally and in the Australian Capital Territory. He has undergraduate degrees in law and Asian studies and Indonesian (Griffith University) as well as postgraduate degrees in law and legal practice (Australian National University). Dean has worked throughout the Australian Public Service with a focus on the development and implementation of migration regimes. He currently works for the UK Civil Service advising on legal policy following the UK’s departure from the EU.
Thesis title is: A risk approach to the Australian and UK government perceptions of irregular migration.
