
Bio
Dr Aaron Petty is an Appellate Immigration Judge at the Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Department of Justice, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law, and a legal officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Previously, as senior counsel for national security, he litigated immigration cases implicating terrorism, espionage, war crimes, and other atrocities. Dr Petty’s recent academic work focuses on the construction and judicial understanding of legal categories relating to status, membership and belonging. His current projects address the nature of citizenship and the intersection of international humanitarian law and refugee law.
