Bio

Dr. Deborah Casalin is a post-doctoral researcher at the Law and Development Research Group in the University of Antwerp Faculty of Law, Belgium. Her current research on durable solutions for IDPs and international law builds further on her doctoral research, which focused on the role of international (quasi-)judicial human rights bodies in ensuring reparation for arbitrary displacement. Before pursuing her PhD as a graduate teaching and research assistant at the same institution, Deborah worked for eight years in the humanitarian and development sectors in Geneva, Jerusalem and Brussels, primarily in roles relating to international humanitarian law and human rights. She holds an LLM from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, a Master of Laws from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and an LLB from the Nelson Mandela University, South Africa, where she is also a research associate. Deborah is currently assistant editor of the Journal of Internal Displacement.
