Bio
Dr. Eleni Karageorgiou is a Senior Researcher in Public International Law at Lund University, Sweden. Eleni’s current research explores questions of international responsibility in the context of EU’s cooperation with third countries on migration management. Previously visiting at the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, Eleni’s work on human rights, refugee law and solidarity in the European asylum system has been published in e.g., the Oxford Handbook of International Refugee Law, the EE Research Handbook on Human Rights and Poverty, and the Nordic Journal of International Law.
In addition, Eleni has conducted commissioned work for national and European institutions, including the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (SIEPS) and the European Parliament. Eleni is the the co-editor of the book Law, Solidarity and the Limits of Social Europe: Constitutional Tensions for EU Integration (Edward Elgar 2022) and of The New Asylum and Transit Countries in Europe During and in the Aftermath of the 2015/2016 Crisis, (Brill 2018).
Prior to commencing her doctoral studies, Eleni worked for the Greek Asylum Appeal Committees and before that, in migration law practice. Her research interests include theory of international law, international and regional human rights systems, non-citizens’ rights, refugee law and gender, the European Asylum System, ECtHR and CJEU migration jurisprudence.
