Bio

Dr Rebecca Smyth is a Lecturer in Law at Birmingham City University, specialising in international human rights law. She is module leader on the LLM course International Refugee Law: Core Concepts and Critical Perspectives, which combines International Refugee Law and Critical Migration Studies. Dr Smyth's research primarily focuses on the (sometimes productive) tensions arising from historically oppressed groups engaging with the discourse of human rights. She holds a BA in European Studies and MPhil in Gender and Women’s Studies from Trinity College Dublin, and an LLM and PhD in International Human Rights Law from the University of Edinburgh.
