Bio

Hasna is carrying out doctoral research on the assessment of medical evidence in refugee status determination at Queen Mary University of London as a recipient of an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Studentship award from the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP). Prior to her doctoral research, Hasna worked for the UK Civil Service on a range of global topics including asylum and migration. She holds an LLB degree in Law and an LLM in Human Rights Law from Queen Mary University of London in which she received a Distinction. She has completed the Bar Professional Training Course and was called to the Bar of England and Wales. She has a strong interest in the mental health needs of those seeking asylum, particularly the prevalence of trauma-based illnesses amongst this group and is keen to integrate the results of her research into government practice.
