Bio
Ria is a PhD candidate at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on refugee groups admitted to the Philippines during the 20th century, such as Jewish, ‘White’ Russian, and Indochinese refugees. She questions the dynamics between actors involved in refugee assistance: the state, international refugee regime, and non-state actors. Prior to her doctoral studies, Ria taught Western History at the Ateneo de Manila University and consulted with the NGO, Ashoka Philippines. Her work in refugee history shifts from her broader historical background in Classical Studies (Kings College London) and Byzantine Studies (University of Oxford).
