Sophia Soares

Bio

Sophia is carrying out her PhD research on torture prevention in refugee and asylum seeker detention situations within the Human Rights Implementation Centre of the University of Bristol’s School of Law where she also teaches international law at undergraduate level. She has worked in the refugee field for some 7 years prior to this, mainly with UNHCR in Malta and Geneva (durable solutions and statelessness) but also in the UK where she worked on integration efforts under the Home Office’s vulnerable refugee families’ resettlement programme. She holds an LLM in Human Rights Law and an LLB in European Legal Studies.
